Disconnect from the Cord and Enjoy Your Tunes
If you love to listen to your favorite podcasts or tunes when you are cleaning the house, burning calories on your treadmill, or organizing your office, but do not like being attached to your electronic music player such as an iPod or stereo by a cord, then you will enjoy the mobility offered by digital wireless headphones.
A mini-jack is used to connect your digital wireless headphones to your electronic player, such as your iPod or stereo. Many wireless headphones manufacturers will include a digital input as well as a mini-jack or regular RCA in the headphones package. This feature is a must-have if you plan to use your headphones with your CD player, mini disc or DVD.
Premier Sound Quality.
In addition to freeing you from the cord, digital wireless headphones create good sound quality. Most wireless headphones utilize infrared technology to transmit and receive the signal. Some use a radio frequency instead. These frequency signals are sent as a raw analog transmission.
Digital wireless headphones utilize digitally encoded signals to transmit and receive the signal. This process reduces or eliminates the hissing sound that is sometimes associated with analog transmissions. If sound quality is important to you, digital wireless headphones are the best option.
If you plan to use digital wireless headphones with your home theater system or car, look for models that include built-in Dolby decoders and surround sound. While these types of digital wireless headphones are more expensive, they will make your listening experience more enjoyable.
Powering Your Headphones.
Last, but not least, digital wireless headphones need power in order to operate. Most wireless headphones utilize a transmitter that plugs into the wall. Typically, the headset will be powered by batteries which are stored in the headset itself.
If you plan on using your digital wireless headphones frequently, consider buying rechargeable batteries. Doing so can save you a a nice chunk of change in the long run.
Audiovox, Sony and Bose are popular manufacturers of wireless digital headphones.
