Cheap Acoustic Guitars - Considerations
One of the reasons for the cost of an instrument being high is due to the material used for making them. Certainly the better quality ones will often have been made using wood. But although there are guitars made out of other materials such as graphite or plastic wood is also used to make cheap acoustic guitars, which will still have the sound you are looking for.
As you will soon discover those guitars which are not made from wood will not have such a full and round sound as you would have expected. Because of this you may find yourself becoming frustrated and choose to give up learning how to play the guitar altogether. So if you can afford to and have sufficient funds you should invest in a wooden one rather than one of the much cheaper types. Yes you can save money on a cheap one but you will find that you will not enjoy playing it as much.
When you start looking for a cheap acoustic guitar, go for one that has a solid wood top rather than one made from plywood. You will find that the solid wood top give a much richer and fuller tone to the sound it makes. Plus if you can afford to then buy a guitar which not only has a solid wood top but a solid wood back and sides as well.
As you will soon discover there are lots of different acoustic guitars to choose from but one that you should seriously consider thinking about buying, is the Seagull S6. Which although expensive is really value for money. The top is made from cedar whilst the back and sides have been made using mahogany and it is these woods that help it produce such a wonderful sound. Because of the quality of the build many professional musicians will still have this guitar and will like to play it, even though they could well have much more expensive ones in their collection.
The Seagull S6 will cost around $400-$500, but if you are at all serious about being a good guitarist, you should seriously consider investing money in buying this guitar. Buy by taking a look online you may actually find that you can get some great deals on this particular guitar.
As well as the Seagull S6 acoustic guitar there are other ones which you may want to consider such as the Yamaha F310. This guitar is cheaper because of the material used to make it. The top is made from spruce rather than cedar and sides and back are made using mahogany as the Seagull S6 is. Because of the difference in the top wood used one can expect to pay about $150 to $200 for this acoustic guitar. It is the price of this guitar which is why those just learning to play the guitar will buy one.
Another guitar which is much cheaper to buy than the Seagull S6 is the Epiphone DR-100 which you can buy for between $120 and $150. But although it is slightly cheaper than the Yamaha F310 it is actually made using the exact same materials. So the top is made from spruce and the back and sides from mahogany. If you are looking for the perfect wood guitar when learning to play then this could be the perfect one for you. However, you will at some point when you can play it well have to upgrade to another make and model.
Although there are plenty of guitars available that cost less than $100 these are not the sort you should consider buying when you are wanting to learn. As you will find the quality of the sound they produce is badly affected and people who choose to buy one of these will often give up learning because they just do not sound as good. The reason for this is that the guitars are not made very well and the materials used because they are poor quality and cheap to buy.
Therefore if you are serious about getting a cheap acoustic guitar for either yourself or someone else then you can not go far wrong with the ones mentioned above. However, if you find that you are still restricted by your budget then take a look at your local guitar or music store to see what second hand ones they have available. The great thing about doing this is that you will be able to try several out in order to find the one that you feel comfortable with.
