Vampire Contact Lenses - Real Or Fake?

by Charlie Cory

One of the most popular special effects contact lenses at Halloween and at costume parties are vampire contact lenses. They are also very effective for use with stage costumes, so if acting is your thing, they could make a very effective addition to your thespian wardrobe. There again, if you simply want to scare off unwanted door to door salesmen, then vampire contact lenses can also be very effective, although it has to be said that many door to door salesmen are vampiric themselves, so may not be taken in.

Vampire contact lenses are not restricted for use by people with poor eyesight. When purchased over the counter, they do not have any prescription attached to them, so they will not affect your vision at all. That being said however, if you have an optical problem such as astigmatism, then these types of cosmetic contact lenses will have no effect, so if you need lenses such as these and you have poor eyesight, then you may need to get custom lenses made, which could prove to be expensive.

Vampire contact lenses are prepared differently from conventional cosmetic coloured contacts in that they are not tinted. Because of the effect required, the lenses are actually printed. Because of this, the effect that they produce can be quite stunning.

I will be preaching to the converted when I talk about the cleaning and hygiene surrounding the use of contact lenses, when I talk about people who wear contact lenses on a daily basis. Those who have not worn contact lenses before, or have not worn them for a long time should seek the advice of an eye acre professional first. You should get your eyes checked routinely anyway, and it wouldn't hurt to ask about the suitability of your eyes to wearing contact lenses. You also need to be aware of how to clean and look after your contact lenses as well as the strict hygiene you should employ when handling your lenses.

You should always wash your lenses before and after use, as well as wash your hand before and after handling your lenses. In this day and age it should go without saying that you should lend your contacts to anyone else, not should you share anyone else's lenses either. Eye disease can be very serious, so take care of your lenses and eyes very carefully.

It would also be wise to watch others who also use vampire contact lenses. If you ever encounter anyone at a party or anywhere else that looks the same with our without their vampire contact lenses, then be very wary, turn and run like mad!
