Hard Facts about Craft Shows
At the start of our craft career we started just by doing something we love and one of our friends who saw the product decided to buy our craft. For most of us we started by selling to our families and friends. Then from the positive responses we got from our friends and family it encouraged us to start a small business.
When you have just started your small business, the thought of going out and promote your craft did not cross your mind. This is because maybe at some of your few craft shows you had your family and friends support. But once you do decide you want to sell more then you will have to face the fact that you will need to market your product.
Another hard fact that we will need to face is that we are not a huge company. We do not have the resources or staff to help us promote our craft. We do not have the college graduate employees and divisions to think of ways to advertise our product.
We the craft makers must rely on our own capabilities not like the huge companies where they are well funded to advertise their product. We need to be self-reliant; we will need to learn to survive without other people to assist us. We not only create a perfect craft but must learn to sell our product.
To promote our craft we will also be selling a little bit of our individuality. Promoting is not something that you will just present a fake smile. But this smile must reflect in your eyes as well. Meaning we will need to be pleasant and nice to everyone that comes through our booth.
Keeping a positive attitude towards our customer will go a long way in selling our products. It is best to keep in mind that to sell our products we also have to be actively interact with our customer. We will not be able to do this when there are negative thought that will occupy us.
